Longtime Beaverdale neighbors can be remembered by friends and family with the planting of a memorial tree. The program has been sponsored by the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association since 1995. More than 50 trees have been planted in memory of Beaverdale residents who have died. Those who wish to plant a tree to honor or remember someone can receive matching funds from the BNA to help purchase and plant the tree.
Many of the trees are planted in the Urbandale Avenue median. At a planting ceremony, loved ones can gather, tell stories about the person being remembered, and help plant the tree, which has a name tag hanging from a branch with the name of the deceased person.
These pictures are from a tree planting ceremony in October 2025 when neighbors from the Ashby Avenue – Wallace Lane neighborhood planted a tree in memory of longtime resident Carole Ward. A Japanese Lilac was planted in the Urbandale Avenue median. Neighbors agree to water the tree regularly during the first two seasons. A watering bag is attached to the tree as well as a protective guard to ward off deer damage.
