Board and Membership Topics
Ø Board Updates – 5 min
o Financial update- Strong position at 89k and a net income of 3.4k. The first couple
months are financially light
o Fundraising is going well for Blue Grass Festival
Ø Committee Updates (Beautification, Engagement, Public Affairs, Special Events) – 5 min
o Beautification Committee-
§ May is a busy month. On May 15th, they will pick up the flowers to plant in
three parks. They will meet at Beaverdale Park that Friday at 10 a.m.
§ New event the Memorial Tree Walk the Sunday May 24th Memorial Day at 2
p.m. in the Fareway parking lot. To discuss the trees that are planted in
the median starting back in the 1980’s
o Special Events
§ Mega Scrub is May 16th 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverbend. This event is solely
run by volunteers, and we NEED volunteers.
§ Reminder, they do not accept latex paint, twin axel trailers, yard waste,
and limited tires
o Engagement Committee-
§ Community event May 6th at the Better Business Bureau
§ Beaverdale Big Event going on in May and Saturday May 23rd volunteer
event
§ Doing a blood drive on the 23rd at Green Family Flooring. Sign up for a spot
to donate.

o Blue Grass
§ Reminder Event is July 11th starting at 2:30 p.m. and volunteers will be
needed
Ø Beaverdale Farmer’s Market: call for volunteers – 5 min
o Beaverdale Farmers Market will be starting up June 2nd from 4-7
o Volunteers are needed to set up at 2 p.m. and tear down at 7 p.m.
o Kids tent with items from PBS will be there every week this year
o Come for great food and items along with neighborhood friends

Ø Jeff Wiggins with the City of Des Moines: Beaverdale traffic study results – 10 minutes
o Jeffs presentation is available on the website
o Presentation covers bike lanes and traffic incidents related and history of bike
lanes and striping
Ø Kristen Anderson, Dan Fillius and Kimberly Stone with Moore Bike Bus – 15 minutes
o Presentation on ask for changes to Urbandale Avenue bike lanes
o Reasoning and plan are in presentation which can be found on BNA site
Ø Hannah Cutler with Rooted Fitness – 10 minutes
o Just celebrated 5 years in Beaverdale
o Started more in the Yoga studio but will be moving soley into the fitness space in
August. New classes such as boxing, rowing, and mobility classes along with
other classes. Barre classes have been the most popular small group lifting
classes.
o They do not participate in diet culture. Fitness is an enrichment in life not what it
aesthetically does for your body

o Tips and items to help with tree care and items to look
o Good questions to ask an arborist:
§ Are you insured?
§ What do you specialize in preservation, pruning, etc.?
§ What is your safety training (ANSI A300)?
§ Are they certified arborists?
