The hot, humid weather broke earlier in the day, making for a perfect night for National Night Out, 2024.

Beaverdale's NNO took place near Snookie's at Beaver and 41st Street. Snookie's had a long line, offering 50-cent ice cream cones. Price Chopper offered free hot dogs, chips and snow cones.

Marvel Action Heroes, including Spiderman thrilled some of the children. Others were a bit frightened, despite the reassurance of their parents.

Des Moines police, fire and garbage vehicles showed up, letting kids climb into the driver's seat. The Dixieland Jazzers entertained the crowd in front of MST.

One of the highlights was a dunk tank, with first ward city councilman Chris Coleman bringing bravery and a positive attitude while sitting in the tank. Several constituents took a shot at Coleman, and then Mayor Connie Boesen stopped by to give it a shot. After several unsuccessful attempts, she finally nailed it and Coleman plopped into the drink.

A big thank you to all the volunteers from the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association who organized National Night Out and thanks to the neighbors who came out to join the fun.
