Beaverdale Beautification Committee meeting 10/17/23
Attending: Nancy Dunbar, Marion Wissler, Terry Thielen, Donisue Rupp, Barb Mullins, Sasha Kamper, John Waters
PARKS: Ashby - flowers have been replaced by mums Beaverdale - annuals have been removed Westchester - annuals have been removed Bel=Aire & Palm Ave islands will remove annuals after frost. John reported that there was a heavy piece of metal left on the island. Barb will pick it up and dispose of it in a dumpster.
TREES: no new requests for memorial trees at this time. Trees are continuing to be watered until they go dormant.
URBANDALE AVE MEDIAN: Nepeta still looks good at intersection, and alyssum planted in the bed near 34th St looks good. Nancy & Mary Ellen will continue to walk the median on a regular basis to collect trash.
FLOWER ORDER: Flower order was submitted Sept 29. Pick up in May.
STREETSCAPE: flowers have been removed from planters, mums installed, maintenance seems to be a bit better this season.
FALL FESTIVAL: everyone thought the parade went well although set up was a bit chaotic. Carnival did very well. This year’s t-shirts sold out. Clean up well. Problem with vehicles parked on the median both nights needs to be addressed.
PROPOSED SCAVENGER HUNT: discussed ideas for scavenger hunt of tree carvings: one afternoon in June, volunteers at each location to check list, use stickers, send letters to property owners this fall, request budget to pay for posters, printing, prizes, Donisue will send list of properties to committee, Sasha will edit letter composed earlier
BUDGET: Nancy will submit budget request for $350 for scavenger hunt
NEXT MEETING: Nov 16th at 6:30 at 6336 Hickman Rd. to plan scavenger hunt
