Beaverdale Beautification Meeting  June 18, 2024


Attended:  Donisue Rupp, Nancy Dunbar, Donna Fulmore, Sasha Kamper, Barb Mullins, Jean Swanson, Terry Thielen, John Waters, Toni Hayes. Mary Ellen Burr


Parks: annuals planted and mulched at all parks, city is watering.  Beaverdale Park sign needs something to replace hostas that are eaten by deer.  Ashby Park: Toni will submit a proposal to replace annuals with natives in the sign bed.


Trees: Eugene and Cork’s trees continue to look OK, will continue to monitor them. Carol will water Teresa’s tree and Terry will water Eugene’s tree with buckets this year.


Urbandale median: Nepeta will need to be cut back when flowers fade, Nancy will monitor and ask for help to prune..  Nancy and Mary Ellen will continue to pick up trash on median on a regular basis, 


Flowers: Nancy picked up Brunnera Jack Frost at greenhouse during reception for volunteers for Beaverdale Park.  Toni will keep until ready for planting.


Streetscape: planters now have multi-colored sun impatiens.  Bed by Credit Union has big weeds, take photos and send to Boesen’s;  Continue to monitor maintenance during season by taking pictures and talking to Boesen’s.


Tree Carving Scavenger Hunt: 53 people participated. All said how much fun it was, many on bicycles.   34 entries were submitted with all 12 tree carvings stamped.  Sasha spent $200 on prizes from Ace Hardware,Back Country, Beaverdale Books, Beaverdale Confections, Grounds, and Snookies. She notified the winners.

Donisue and Nancy will send thank yous to tree carving owners with sample brochures.  Nancy will write an article for Sidewalk. Donisue and Sasha have photos for website.  Terry suggested repeating scavenger hunt with interesting front doors for future event.


BIG EVENT: Sasha and Nancy volunteered at Moore School. Other locations had full roster of volunteers.  If repeated next year, avoid date of Beaverdale Garden Walk, June 7,2025


2025 Garden Walk: confirmed gardens: Laura McFarland -2003 46th St.  potential gardens: Rachel Rolfes-2922 46th St, Amber Siever-3807 Adams, KK Veal-45th & Franklin


National Night Out:  Donna will volunteer and can hand out leftover Carving Quest brochures


Next meeting: no July meeting- August 20 potluck at 6336 Hickman Rd. at 6 PM
