Beautification Committee Meeting notes  09/17/24

Attended:  Donisue Rupp, Nancy Dunbar, Donna Foltman, Barb Mullins, Jean Swanson, Terry Thielen, Toni Hayes, 

Parks:: Toni planted the brunnera at Beaverdale Park, and submitted a plan to use more natives in the sign bed at Ashby Park sign.  It’s success will depend on availability of plants from the city.  Nancy will contact Colt about grasses.  Westchester Park sign looks good.

Trees: Terry, Sasha, John, Rita, and Nancy cut suckers on the trees in the median last Saturday morning. Then Nancy and Rita weeded the rain garden in island at Holland Dr.   Eugene and Cork’s trees continue to look OK, will continue to monitor them. Terry is watering Eugene’s tree with buckets again this year.  We may be planting a memorial tree this fall for Marion Wissler. Donations can be submitted to the BNA with ‘Marion’s tree’ on the memo line.

Flowers: Flowers order is due Oct 4.  Nancy has sent requests to Bob Knutson, John and Angela.  We may want to add some flowers at the rain garden in the island on Holland Drive.  Nancy will discuss needs for other beds with Toni.

Streetscape: Tom Boesen and son were seen cutting back large weeds in beds in streetscape.  Sasha asked him to spruce things up for Fall Festival.  Some of the weeds are perennial and need to be treated with chemicals or dug up.

Carving Quest: leftover brochures will be made available at the BNA table during Fall Festival.

Fall Festival: Donisue and Nancy are helping with parade set up.  And signed up to clean certain parking lots and streets Sunday morning starting at 8am..  Sasha also said she and Mike will help starting at 7am.

Nancy will create a flier to put on BNA table at Fall Fest requesting help for 2025 Garden Walk.

Next meeting: Tuesday, October 15th, 6:30 at Franklin JrHigh Event Center?  Barb will check to see if we could have our meetings there.
