It wasn't "late September back in '63" but oh, what a night for bluegrass fans in mid-July, '24!

The Beaverdale Bluegrass Festival attracted its largest crowd ever under partly cloudy skies and comfortable temperatures Saturday night at Tower Park.

Thousands of music fans brought their camp chairs and laid-back attitude to enjoy a number of bluegrass bands, talk with friends and neighbors, and enjoy some beer and food from a number of food trucks.

Rain showers earlier in the morning gave way to partly cloudy skies and then bursts of sunshine as the evening wore on. It was perfect weather and a perfect venue for one of the premier events of the summer in Des Moines.

Fans of the Beaverdale Bluegrass Festival could memorialize the night with a custom-made t-shirt right on site, courtesy of Side Garage.

Thanks go out to the many volunteers and sponsors who make the festival happen each year. It takes a ton of planning, fund-raising and hard work to make it go so smoothly.

And remember, joining the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association is a great way you can help bring the neighborhood together. If you enjoyed the bluegrass festival and you're not yet a member of BNA, please show your thanks and support by joining. An individual membership is only $20 for a year.
