SCRUB is a free service provided by Des Moines Public Works and Metro Waste Authority, in conjunction with local neighborhood associations. At SCRUB sites, Des Moines residents can dump large trash items (including furniture, electronics, and appliances) and hazardous waste in exchange for a freewill donation. The SCRUB team will also accept small amounts of tires and construction waste, and a professional grade shredder is onsite for residents who wish to shred personal paperwork.
Residents must show proof of Des Moines citizenship to use this service. Also note that the SCRUB team will not accept yard waste, commercial quantities of tires/construction waste, or paint cans. (The latter can be taken away through normal curbside trash pick-up, if cans are left out to dry.)
Beaverdale’s SCRUB event will be held in conjunction with Lower Beaver and other Northwest Des Moines neighborhoods from 7am-1pm on May 18th at Polk County River Place, 2309 Euclid Ave, Des Moines. This event is offered as a free service to the community, but as a result, lines can be long. Late arrivals will not be admitted; plan to arrive prior to 1pm in order to guarantee your entrance into the dump site.
Also, the BNA and Lower Beaver Neighborhood Association are always looking for people who are willing to help volunteer for this event. If you would like to volunteer for a few hours to keep Northwest Des Moines looking beautiful, please contact Jeremy Geerdes at JGeerdes@dhw.church.
