Work to repave Hickman Road from Merle Hay Road east to Beaver Avenue is underway.

Work started near Merle Hay Road. On Saturday, June 13th, crews had ground down the surface for about two blocks, heading east. Although signs indicated Hickman would be closed to through traffic, the road has mostly been open.

As of Tuesday, June 16th, the old pavement had been ground down and new asphalt had been put down from Merle Hay Road for several blocks to the east.

The new pavement is a huge improvement over the old surface, which had been cracked, with multiple bumps caused by temporary pothole filling. Below are two pictures showing the new, smooth pavement and a typical beat-up segment that still needs to be removed and paved over.

The entire paving project is expected to take about one month. Read more information on the paving here.

The work had been expected to start one week earlier but was delayed by rain.

As soon as the paving work is done on Hickman, the crews will turn their attention to Beaver Avenue, starting at Franklin Avenue and moving north to Hickman. The Beaver will be repaved from Fagen Drive to Ovid, and finally from Ovid to Douglas Avenue.
