Message from Polk County Supervisor Angela Connolly, District 5
As your elected official, I remain true in my commitment to serving the people of Polk County and doing the work that matters most to the taxpayers. Despite recent and ongoing challenges, my dedication to our community and its needs has never wavered.
I am incredibly proud to support the constituents of Polk County and the approximately 1,700 dedicated county employees who come to work daily to deliver exceptional services. Their hard work ensures that Polk County remains a safe and thriving place to live, work, and raise a family.
Public service is a responsibility that I take seriously, and I am fully committed to continuing this important work with integrity and accountability. Together, we will address the challenges and build on our successes.
Polk County continues to operate one of the most effective local governments in the state. We have a balanced budget and have maintained or reduced our levy rate in every year that I have been a Polk County Supervisor. We continue to manage the financial impact of HF 718 enacted during the 2023 legislative session. Polk County will continue to cautiously approach growth in ongoing costs and implement cost-savings as appropriate.
Polk County Board of Supervisors, Broadlawns Medical Center, and St. Vincent dePaul collaborated to open the first crisis access center in the county. Life Services Center is located at 1914 Carpenter Avenue, Des Moines, IA. This facility represents an innovated approach to addressing the challenges faced by individuals facing addiction and mental health crisis.
