One Beaverdale construction project has been accelerated while a second one is delayed.
(Urbandale Avenue closed for repaving 8-24)
Urbandale Avenue has been closed between Beaver Avenue and 34th Street for resurfacing. At first, it was thought the project would not take place until 2025, but the work has begun. Crews have been grinding down the existing street surface to level it prior to putting a new surface on the pavement.
Urbandale Avenue has been a rough ride for motorists and bicyclists for a number of years, with multiple potholes filled. Some parts of the street were washed away by heavy rains in June of 2018.
The Des Moines city council approved a $300,000 contract to resurface the street.
A second project that was to start in July has now been delayed. Construction of a 150-foot tall cellphone tower behind the Acanthus Lodge on Urbandale Avenue has been delayed. No start date has been nailed down, but it will be after the Beaverdale Fall Festival, which uses a lot of the parking area behind the lodge for carnival rides.
Background about the new cellphone tower can be seen here.
