Booverdale

Public Affairs has agreed to shadow the Beaverdale Booverdale event (previous event link https://www.beaverdale.org/calendar/events/event-113/). We will decide after participating if Public Affairs wants to just take over this event (we probably will).

Currently Edward Fishman, Therese Herold and Josh Nelson are handling the event. The event is October 24 from 4-6 PM. The local businesses handle a fair amount of the work for this event. We should just need a few volunteers.

Therese Herold joined our monthly meeting to discuss Booverdale. There are around 24 local businesses participating in the event. Therese indicated there were approximately 200 kids attending last year. Holy Trinity Catholic Church also has a “Trunk or Treat” from 5:00-6:30.  

Main volunteer need is to insure people cross Beaver Ave safely. There are a couple of hand held stop signs and vests in the BNA storage shed that Public Affairs will bring to Booverdale.

BNA Quarterly Meeting

Our next QM is Thursday Nov 7^th. Normally this is scheduled for the first Tuesday every quarter but Tuesday Nov 5^th is election day. The agenda is set and will be distributed.

New PA chair

Don Piper has accepted an opening on the BNA board. He is not leaving the Public Affairs Committee but a new chair for the committee was requested/accepted. Isaac Lafleur has offered to move into the chair position beginning with the Nov 2024 monthly meeting.

Beaver Ave/41^st Street construction

This intersection is being modified in 2025 with the construction starting in the spring and completed in the fall. We discussed how much impact this will have on National Night Out in August. Determination is it will actually be a benefit as we will no longer need to close 41^st street for the NNO event. We will keep an eye on the progress in 2025.

Union Park’s Contractor’s Fair

Jack Daugherty (Co-Chair Union Park Neighborhood Association) reached out to BNA to see if we could provide information from the Contractor’s Fair we did in 2023. Don Piper sent all the documentation we had. Union Park is looking at doing a Contractor’s Fair in the spring of 2025. This is in connection with Invest DSM expanding to Union Park, North of Grand and Woodland Heights in 2025.

BNA Public Affairs has offered to partner with Union Park for this event. We will request a meeting with Union Park Neighborhood Association to discuss further yet this year. Our suggestion is to have the event in March. We’ll suggest UPNA also have a meeting with the folks at Invest DSM well before moving forward with plans. Don Piper will reach out again to Jack Daugherty to get a meeting planned. Bill Gray, Josh Nelson and Don Piper offered to attend that meeting.

 The November Public Affairs meeting will be on the 20^th from 5:30-6:30 PM. Restaurant still TBD.
