A severe thunderstorm caused a moderate amount of damage around Beaverdale on Thursday, July 11.

High winds damaged trees, including a huge tree that split at the entrance to Beaverdale Park at 34th Street and Adams Avenue. The tree fell within inches of a picnic table and temporarily blocked the park’s entry drive.

As of Saturday, June 13th, the drive was open but the main bulk of the tree remained on the ground.

One block west, tree limbs fell on power lines in the front of a home at 35th Street and Adams Avenue, knocking out power for about two hours to a several-block area. MidAmerican Energy crews restored power around 9:30 a.m.

A large tree limb fell on a car in the driveway of a home at 2502 Beaver Avenue, breaking out the windows and denting the roof.

There are no reports of injuries in Beaverdale. But just east of the neighborhood, a tree fell on a man in a tent in a homeless camp in the 3300 block of MLK Drive. The man died as a result of his injuries. The name of the 54-year-old man has not been released as of this writing.
